Community Closet

Do to social distancing guidelines and risk of contamination surrounding COVID-19, the Community Closet is not accepting donations or allowing visitors or volunteers. Families needing assistance can still contact their school social worker.

District 54 runs Community Closets at Addams Junior High School, Eisenhower Junior High School, Lakeview School and Muir School. The Closets collect gently used shoes and clothing from members of our community and provide them free of charge to the families of our students in need. Our students cannot be expected to do their best in school until their basic needs are met. The Community Closets align with the goal of District 54’s strategic plan, The 54 Promise, which is to ensure the success of the whole child.

If you need clothing or you know of a family in need, please contact the school social worker. On average we serve about 600 people each year.

The Community Closets use no taxpayer dollars. All the people who work in the Closets are volunteers. All the clothes given away are donations. We have received so many quality donations that our families have been able to select as much as they needed.
