School District 54 strives to provide our staff and their families with a comprehensive and valuable benefits package. We want to make sure they’re getting the most out of our benefits— that’s why we’ve put together the following document.
The District 54 Induction and Mentoring Program is designed to support new teachers and specialists and to create a professional growth environment. Mentor training, professional development classes and individual goal-setting are integral components of the District 54 Induction and Mentoring Program.
District 54 mentors form partnerships with new teachers, assisting them in understanding the core curriculum, classroom management, instructional strategies, assessment and all aspects of their professional development. They will refine their skills in developing trusting and open relationships and dialogues around instruction. They will use formative assessment tools to coach novice teachers. Visit sd54.org/new-teachers for more information.
Professional Development registration takes place through the Employee Access Center.
Note: You can only access this site from a district computer connected to the district network (or remote access).
After logging in, click the Professional Development link under “Employee Tasks” on the left-side menu.
You may view completed coursework under “Continuing Education.” Course credit is listed individually. To get a total listing of coursework including totals, please email [email protected].
District 54 has tools, coaches, and resources to help you grow your craft in every way. The tremendous amount of support provided as a first year teacher helped me to flourish in a way that I think is rare for our field. Everyone wants you to succeed and works here with pride. The PLC model and mentors ensure that you always have someone to look to, and the leadership of the principals that I have interacted with has always been mutual respect and an open door policy that encourages evolving as an educator.
Michael Yarnell, Stevenson 2nd Grade TeacherYou will be supported. You will have a great team of teachers who will always push you to your best. They have the best professional development opportunities. You will be paid like and treated like A PROFESSIONAL who is passionate for your work. You will get tenfold out of the job if you are willing to put in as much. The bar is high here, but they give you all the supports to meet it.
Ann Griffin, Hoover Art TeacherThe amount of support the district has for its employees is unmatched. There are so many opportunities for professional development, too. I almost feel like it's hard to 'fail' at teaching in this district with the amount of support there is within the administration.
Catherine Holmes, ELC Speech TeacherThis is a place where everyone is valued. No one is in competition with one another but rather we are all cheering each other on and working collectively toward one goal. With this mindset, everyone shares the work load. Even better, happiness and work satisfaction are a REAL goal that everyone works toward every day, not just one that is talked about in staff meetings.
Christine Drucker, Collins 6th Grade TeacherI love teaching in School District 54! SD54 has been amazingly supportive and I have learned so much in my first year back. My Professional Learning Community (PLC) has been extremely helpful and guided me with planning, implementing lessons, and answering any questions I had. There are so many supports in place from district mentors, building coaches, and professional development classes to websites, leadership, and the Help Desk. I really feel like the district cares about my whole self, not just me as a teacher. If you are looking for a career in education, School District 54 is the place to be!
