Freedom of Information Act
Six Freedom of Information requests were replied to since the last report to the School Board related to employee contact information, refuse/recycling and photography contracts, records/emails with Lurie Children’s Hospital, 2023 summer renovation bids and purchasing records.

Consent Agenda
The School Board approved the following items on the Consent Agenda.

  • The minutes of the regular Board of Education meeting on May 3, 2023 and the special open and closed-session Board of Education meetings on May 18, 2023
  • Resignations, leaves, terminations, retirements, employment, re-employment and salary adjustments of personnel
  • The 2023-2024 salaries for administrators, non-represented building-based staff, non-represented district office staff, and operations and maintenance staff
  • The 2023-2024 rates for substitutes and summer help
  • Checks dated May 5, May 19 and June 2, 2023
  • The treasurer’s report on cash and investments for April 2023
  • The monthly update of revenues and expenditures for May 2023
  • The purchase of a treasurer’s bond for 2023-2024
  • The 2023-24 Workers’ Compensation insurance policy
  • The purchase of technology licensing and support 
  • The renewal of a three-year license with Health World Education
  • An insurance benefits consulting contract with Presidio for October 1, 2023 through September 30, 2026
  • A resolution requesting free transportation for students due to approved hazardous conditions for the 2023-2024 school year
  • A five-year extended agreement with Brightly Software Inc.
  • A memo of understanding with the Hoffman Estates Park District related to the Eisenhower Track
  • A one-year extension of the intergovernmental agreements with the Hoffman Estates Park District, the Golden Corridor Family YMCA and the Schaumburg Park District for the use of District 54 facilities for before- and after-school care
  • The destruction of the verbatim records of the closed-session school board meeting held on November 11, 2021 for which approved minutes already exist

 
Report of the Board President
Board President Jim Pye congratulated Superintendent Andy DuRoss on 10 years of service as the district’s superintendent and thanked him for all he’s done for District 54.

District Citizens’ Advisory Committee Report
Board Member Barb Hengels reported that DCAC heard a presentation at its last meeting in May on professional development opportunities for staff and extracurricular activities for students this summer.

Foundation Report
Board Member Bill Harper reported that the Foundation is hosting its annual golf outing on June 12. During Labor Day weekend, the Foundation is raising funds by parking cars at Collins School for a fee on Saturday and Sunday and selling food during the nonprofit day on Monday. He also encouraged people to visit the website, d54foundation.org, to donate online as a unique gift to thank a teacher.

New Business
The School Board approved the following items:

  • A Memorandum of Understanding with the Schaumburg Educational Employees Organization (SEEO)
  • The 2023-2024 Tentative Budget
  • A resolution calling for a public hearing on the 2023-2024 Budget at 7 p.m. August 10
  • The dates of the Board of Education meetings from July 2023 through June 2024
  • The appointment of representatives to serve on the District Citizens’ Advisory Committee for the 2023-2024 school year
  • The appointment of Nick Scipione to serve as the Illinois Association of School Boards governing board representative for District 54 until spring of 2025
  • A contract with Guidepost Solutions to conduct a districtwide school safety and security audit

 
Announcements
Board Members recognized Julie Gorvett, the assistant superintendent of teaching and learning, who is retiring this week after 37 years of employment in District 54. They thanked Julie on behalf of the thousands of District 54 students whose lives she has impacted in her decades of service. 

Upcoming events include the Hanover Park and Schaumburg Township Juneteenth Celebrations on June 17. District 54 students are speaking at the Schaumburg event at 1 p.m. at Town Square.

The Board also praised the organizers and participants at several recent District 54 events including the Professional Development Symposium, the PTA Scholarship/Recognition Dinner and the 30th Anniversary of District 54’s Special Olympics program.
