3 – Proficient: Combines components of selected mode of speech; Focus on topic is clear; includes relevant quotes and/or research; topic is interesting and meaningful.

2 – Basic: Components of selected mode of speech are not clear; focus on topic is somewhat clear; speech may or may not include quotes and/or research; topic is familiar.

1- Not there yet: No clear mode of speech; focus on topic is not clear; does not include quotes or clear indicators of research; topic is not engaging to the audience.

Organization

4 – Advanced: Sequencing is effective and logical; excellent transitions; ideas structured to create impact.

3 – Proficient: Adequate sequencing; general use of transitions; ideas presented in a clear structure.

2 – Basic: Sequencing is limited; limited transitions; presentation of ideas needs reorganization.

1 – Not there yet: Sequencing needs major revision; transitions not evident; presentation of ideas lacks organization and clarity.

Language Control

4 – Advanced: Multiple complex sentences; topic-specific vocabulary; words/phrases are precise and natural throughout.

3 – Proficient: Some complex sentences; some topic-specific and general vocabulary; words/phrases precise in most of the speech.

2 – Basic: Simple sentences and vocabulary; words make sense but are not precise or natural.

Presentation
