In honor of National Inclusive Schools Week, we’d like to showcase the incredible individuals that serve as District 54 ambassadors on the Special Olympics Illinois Youth Activation Committee (YAC). Members of the committee work together all year long to be leaders of change and inclusivity in their school communities. YAC members volunteer and participate in Special Olympics events, provide advice and counsel on strategies to reach other students, collaborate with other YAC groups across the country and review Unified Champion School materials for innovation and growth. This year, out of the 17 students selected to be a part of the Special Olympics Illinois Youth Activation Committee, 9 were School District 54 students; and here are their stories:
