District 54 is proud to celebrate a significant milestone—the 30th anniversary of its Spanish Dual Language program. Since its inception in 1994 at MacArthur International Spanish Academy, the program has grown and now serves more than 400 students each year, fostering bilingualism, biliteracy and a deep appreciation for language and culture.
To commemorate this achievement, District 54 is inviting Spanish Dual Language alumni, former staff, and current and former program families to a special 30th Anniversary Celebration on Friday, April 4, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at MacArthur International Spanish Academy (1800 Chippendale Road in Hoffman Estates). The event will bring together past and present members of the District 54 Spanish Dual Language community to reflect on the program’s impact, share memories and celebrate its continued success.
“When the Spanish Dual Language program was first launched, the goal was to create an opportunity for students to develop fluency and succeed academically in both languages, while also deepening their understanding of different cultures,” said Nancy Hellstrom, Director of Multilingual Programs. “Now, 30 years later, we are thrilled to see how the program has grown and the lasting impact it has had on students, families, and educators.”
The celebration will feature remarks from program leaders, a tour of the school, student presentations, and opportunities for alumni and former staff to reconnect. This event is not open to the general public but is intended for those who have been directly involved with the program over the years.
To help plan for the event, attendees are asked to RSVP at tinyurl.com/Mac30Dual.
