Freedom of Information Act Requests
District 54 received and replied to three Freedom of Information Act request since the last report to the Board, related to purchasing records, grants and reimbursement records. 

Consent Agenda
The Board approved the following items on the Consent Agenda.

  • Resignations, termination, retirements, employment and salary adjustments of personnel
  • The 2024-2025 salaries for administrators, non-represented building-based staff, non-represented district office staff, and operations and maintenance staff
  • The 2024-2025 rates for substitutes and summer help
  • Checks dated May 3, 17 and 31, 2024
  • The treasurer’s reports on cash and investments for May 2024
  • The monthly update of revenues and expenditures for May 2024
  • A one-year extension of the intergovernmental agreements with the Hoffman Estates Park District, the Golden Corridor Family YMCA and the Schaumburg Park District for the use of District 54 facilities for before- and after-school care
  • The purchase of printer consumables for the 2024-2025 school year
  • The purchase of technology software licensing and support
  • The destruction of the verbatim records of the closed-session school board meeting held on November 17 and December 8, 2022, for which approved minutes already exist

President’s Report
Board President Jim Pye thanked everyone in School District 54 for an outstanding school year. He also thanked everyone who supported the District 54 Education Foundation golf outing this week.

ED-RED Report
Board Member Mary Kay Prusnick thanked ED-RED for hosting a summit this week. Individuals spoke about the sessions they attended including one called Hardwiring Cultures of Excellence presented by Board Members Mary Kay Prusnick and Bob Kaplan and Superintendent Andy DuRoss.

D54 Foundation Report
Board Member Bill Harper also thanked everyone who supported the golf outing on June 10.  Upcoming fundraisers/events include parking cars at Collins during the village of Schaumburg’s Septemberfest festival Labor Day weekend and serving food in the food tent. The Foundation is also taking over the Run to Read on Sept. 22 at Dirksen. Learn more about both events at d54foundation.org/fundraisers.

New Business

  • The Board approved the minutes of the regular and closed session Board of Education meetings on May 16, 2024.
  • The Board approved revisions to Policy 1.60 – Prohibition of Sexual Harassment, Title IX Grievance.
  • The Board approved contracts for Phase 2 of renovations at Lincoln Prairie School.
  • The Board approved the 2024-2025 Tentative Budget.
  • The Board approved a resolution calling for a public hearing on the 2024-2025 Budget at 7 p.m. August 8, 2024.


Announcements
Board members and the superintendent honored and thanked Ric King for his 29.5 years of service to School District 54 as he retires this month.

Ric King thanked his wife for her support, as well as the School Board, Cabinet, Administrative Team, Business and Operations Team, and the previous superintendents and assistant superintendents who served as his mentors. He also praised Steve Miller, who will replace him as assistant superintendent of business operations, saying the district will rise to new levels under his leadership.
