Recognition
The School Board recognized Anisha Neklikar, a third-grade student at Hoover who qualified for the national Science Bee competition in June.
The Board also recognized a group of students from Dooley who competed in the 37th annual Japanese Language Contest for students who are learning Japanese as a second language.

Results from the April 4 Election
The School Board accepted the results of the April 4, 2023, School Board election. Bill Harper, Barbara Hengels and Mary Kay Prusnick were re-elected to a four-year term and Bob Kaplan was elected to a 2-year term. All four took the oath of office.

Adoption of Rules, Regulations, Policies and Procedures
The Board adopted the rules, regulations, policies and procedures of the prior School District 54 Board of Education.
Freedom of Information Act
Eight Freedom of Information requests were replied to since the last report to the School Board related to bid tabulations, the district mission statement, contractor lists and employee contact information.
Consent Agenda
The School Board approved the following items on the Consent Agenda.
- The minutes of the regular and closed-session Board of Education meetings on April 13, 2023
- Resignations, leaves, retirements, re-employment and employment of personnel
- Checks dated April 7 and 21, 2023
- The treasurer’s report on cash and investments for March 2023
- The monthly update of revenues and expenditures for April 2023
- A voluntary parent-purchased student accident insurance plan for the 2023-2024 school year
- The purchase two new 2022 Ford F-350 vehicles
- The purchase of technology licensing and support
- The purchase of FUSE site licenses for the 2023-2024 school year
- The first installment of a three-year agreement for the purchase of 27 DreamBox Software Licenses for the 2023-2024 school year
- The destruction of the verbatim records of the closed-session school board meetings held on October 21 and 25, 2021 for which approved minutes already exist
Report of the Board President
Board President Jim Pye and the rest of the board thanked Mary Kay Prusnick for her servant leadership as board president.
District 54 Education Foundation
Board Member Mary Kay Prusnick encouraged everyone to order from one of the Schaumburg Lou Malnati’s before the end of the day today as proceeds will go toward the Foundation Crisis Fund to aid District 54 families.
She also encouraged everyone to celebrate #54Day (May 4 otherwise known as 5-4) by giving thanks to a District 54 staff member or other individual through a donation to the D54 Education Foundation. All those honored will receive a certificate with your message of appreciation, when you visit d54foundation.org/donate, and select THANKS under the Give menu. Consider a donation to celebrate Teacher’s Appreciation Week next week.
New Business
The School Board approved the following items in New Business.
- A proclamation recognizing Tuesday, May 9, 2023 as National Teacher Day
- The appointment of representatives to serve on the District Citizens’ Advisory Committee for the 2023-2024 school year
- The expenses for Mary Kay Prusnick and Debbie Schmidt from the 2023 Consortium of State School Boards Associations (COSSBA) Conference
- Contracts for 2023 summer renovations to Manusos General Contracting and Emcor Services/Team Mechanical
- Revisions to Board Policy 4:15 – Identity Protection
- The contracts of employment for Associate Superintendents Nicholas Myers and Erin Knoll, and Assistant Superintendents Colette Bell and Jillian Sagan through June 30, 2028
Announcements
Board member thanked everyone who helped plan or participated in the District 54 STEAM event, Battle of the Books, Young Athletes Event, Collins Author Day, Blackwell Science Fair, Fox Discovery Expo and Churchill musical. They also thanked the Schaumburg AM Rotary, who held a Souper Bowl of Soups to raise funds for the D54 Education Foundation Crisis Fund and the Schaumburg Township Food Pantry.
