New Business:
The Board approved the plan for opening and operating District 54 schools and facilities for the 2021-22 school year, with the goal of keeping students and staff safe and in school. The mitigation strategies highlighted in the plan include the following:

  • Based on Governor Pritzker’s mandate, all students, staff and visitors in schools and on district provided transportation will be required to wear a mask, regardless of vaccination status.
  • District 54 will maintain a continued emphasis on cleaning and disinfecting protocols, including hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette.
  • District 54 will continue to have staff and students maintain 3-6 feet of physical distance whenever possible.
  • District 54 will continue to communicate identified symptoms of COVID-19 to families and staff.  Individuals who are sick or develop the identified symptoms should remain home.
  • District 54 will continue to collaborate with local health departments surrounding new cases and in conducting contact tracing in our schools.  Based on Cook County Department of Health evaluation, situational quarantines may be required for infected individuals or close contacts.
  • Based on CDC guidance, District 54 will provide optional COVID-19 testing for all nonvaccinated staff and students.

More details will be shared in communications to parents/guardians and staff this week and on the District 54 website at The mitigation strategies are subject to change based on updated guidance from the state, vaccination coverage levels in our community, or transmission levels within the school or community.

The Board adjourned at 9:18 p.m.
